Is Civil Rights Leadership Still Necessary?

This week on "KEEP HOPE ALIVE with REV. JESSE JACKSON"…

With Senator Obama moving closer to the White House, as well as a growing number of African Americans in political and corporate leadership positions, we must reconsider the role of traditional black leadership. There are some who believe that, in the wake of Senator Obama's political ascendance, the need for civil rights leadership and activism has been eliminated. There are others who argue that there remains a need for such leadership, but that we must reconsider their relationship to the political sphere.

What do you think?

What is the role of civil rights leadership in the 20th Century?

Is it obsolete?

Where is the "new" leadership situated?

Who is the "new leadership"? And for what causes are they fighting---what are their platforms and goals?
